Long Cove
Long Cove is one of 15 properties accessed from a private no-through road running along the south side of Porthcothan Bay. Dating from 1939, but much extended in 1975 and further renovated in 2005, Long Cove has been owned by the same family since 1953 and retains the feel of a family home. The rear of the house has uninterrupted and extensive views onto golden sand or Atlantic rollers, depending on the state of the tide, and across the bay to the National Trust-owned cliffs opposite. The garden is large and well-maintained, with a gate opening directly on to the North Cornwall Coastal path leading to the beach and the local shop. The patio in front of the house is a suntrap.
The sitting/dining room has picture windows running the length of its seaward side, two comfortable leather sofas and a variety of other chairs. The dining table seats eight in comfort, and there is a piano available for caring use by musical guests. The TV receives several freeview channels and there is a DVD player. A small library can be used as an alternative sitting room by those seeking quieter pursuits. There is a telephone landline in the study (which is not otherwise intended for use by guests). Mobile reception is pretty much non-existent.
The kitchen has an electric oven, 4 ring electric hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, as well as the usual work-surface equipment: toaster, coffee machine, blender. There is also an Aga available for guests who are used to their peculiarities, subject to a surcharge to cover the cost of the oil. The utility room houses a large deep freeze and a second fridge.
Beyond the library, there is one master bedroom downstairs, with twin beds, sea views and an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs are three more bedrooms. One twin and one double have sea views, while the third bedroom, nursery style with twin beds and a cot, looks on to the garden. There is a shower room and a separate WC upstairs, and there's a further room with bath, electric shower and washbasin off the hall downstairs. There's a third WC off the utility room.
Long Cove has been a magical place for family holidays for over 50 years!
